RIG Locums’ top medical CV tips
- Get into the habit of updating your CV regularly – ideally medical CVs should be no more than two months old and include your most recent work placement
- Don’t include a photo – employers judge your suitability for a role based on your experience and qualifications alone, so it is not necessary to add a photo which will waste valuable space.
- Ensure that your CV is tailored to the role that you are applying for by highlighting relevant experience, e.g. experience within a sub-speciality, or if you are an oversees doctor, any previous UK experience.
- Make sure that there are no gaps in your CV. If there are, make sure these are explained and justified.
- If you are a seasoned doctor, it is acceptable to limit your career history to ten years. However, if your experience surpasses ten years and your previous experience is particularly relevant to the role you are applying for (e.g. UK experience if an international doctor), then we recommend leaving it in.
- Keep your CV concise and to the point by using bullet points instead of long sentences and paragraphs. This will make it easier for employers to find and digest key information quickly.
- Don’t forget to proof-read your CV. Spelling mistakes and grammatical show poor attention to detail.
