Rig Locums are currently looking for Locum Consultants in Public Health / Public Health Medicine to work in a hospital based in Scotland.

Job Description:

The post holder will work with colleagues across Scotland to safeguard the population’s health through the development of Public Health strategies and policies for communicable disease, reduction of vaccine preventable disease, infection control and environmental health and will be responsible for agreed areas of work within the Health Protection agenda, including the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This post will provide Consultant level expert leadership for the Health Protection response in Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate in PHS, as part of an organisation that provides comprehensive public health functions encompassing: population health, health protection, and health intelligence.

This post-holder will contribute to the health protections function in PHS, as a competent person under the Public Health (Scotland) Act 2008 through participation in the in hours and Out of Hours on-call duty rota for the full range of health protection and specialist public health emergencies.

As a consultant with Public Health Scotland, the post holder will influence policies and practices in health protection using national perspectives and local experience.

The Consultant in Public Health Medicine (CPHM) / Consultant in Public Health (CPH) for Health Protection will contribute to the following priorities:

  • Monitor the health status and health needs of the people in Scotland and be a strong advocate for public health and reducing inequalities with an ability to contribute at Consultant level to the wider work of the department and profession at local and national level.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to increase healthy life expectancy and reduce differences in life expectancy, developing and supporting evidence based decision making across the organisation, with Public Health Scotland and with partners.
  • Promote improvements in the health of Scotland people directly, by providing information and advice on public health matters.

Contribute to strategic changes; providing population health input to strategic health and care service planning and contributing leadership and expertise to our partners

 

Hours per week:

  • 30 hours – overtime available 

Working days:

  • Monday – Friday (3 days per week, days to be agreed)

Length of Contract:

  • 3 – 6 month contracts available

  • May/June

Essential Requirements to apply

 

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Able to provide 2 Recent References
  • Prior NHS experience 
  • Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List

OR

Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists
