Trust in South West London/Surrey area Care of the Elderly Department
A Trust in South West London/ Surrey Area has a district general hospital rated as outstanding by CQC in 2018. We have approximately 350 beds and directly employ some 2,750 staff with another 300 staff employed by contractors but working on behalf of the Trust. We are located in the South West London / Surrey Area.
We have a much higher proportion of very elderly patients within emergency admissions compared with the London (and England) average and expansion of the elderly care department reflects the large number of elderly people being cared for in our hospital as a whole. All our Care of the Elderly Care wards and several other areas in the hospital have been recently refurbished to a high standard to create a dementia friendly environment. There is dynamic Frailty Team working in accident and emergencies and we will be shortly opening a Frailty Unit.
We welcome dynamic and enthusiastic candidates who are passionate about providing great medical care to our elderly population and keen to be involved in innovative service development and quality improvement within an outstanding organisation. This is an amazing opportunity to join our department. As we undergo an exciting period of service development, we will be encouraging and willing to support within job planning any subspecialist interests that the successful candidate may have. We are happy to explore any innovative ways of working that might have a positive impact on our staff satisfaction and there will be consideration of time off in lieu if appropriate.
We encourage our consultants to participate on the training and development of our junior doctors as educational and clinical supervisors (including participating on ACRP’s). The department has a comprehensive undergraduate teaching programme and there are many educational opportunities available to the successful candidate including Grand Rounds, Schwartz rounds, live Royal College of Physician’s webcasts and the care of the elderly weekly educational meetings.
